The Goodwife Knits

February 21, 2011 § Leave a comment

I find myself hanging out for the next episode of The Good Wife!
I love the characters of the show and the writers(Robert King and Michelle King) do such a marvelous job on the script, but above all … *grin* … I look forward to the incidental rare glimses of Alicia Florrick knitwear. Her Aran knits are pure eye candy for any avid knitter.

I can’t seem to narrow my search to finding the cardigan pattern, but I believe the cable stitches used are:
Double Knot Cable Pattern Stitch (as used to make the scarf in the link)
Yarn Over Cable Pattern ( Maybe?)

In anycase … I vow to either hunt this pattern down or try darn hard to rip-it off … I dont know how yet, but fingers crossed.

Still Morning

“Through return to simple living Comes control of desires. In control of desires Stillness is attained. In stillness the world is restored.”  ~ Lao Tzu

I woke up this morning with a peace, the air crisp and clean and smelling like a beckoning autumn morning (still a couple of weeks away). Everything still, except the distant calling of birds in the early morning. I steal away from bed quietly, so enjoy the coolness and quiet of the morning.

It’s been overcast, and rainy for most of the last 24hrs, but it’s certainly a welcome relief from the heat of the previous week. The colour of the sky a dull mute grey.

Shhhhh, just alittle longer … before the stirring of conscious minds pierce this still morning and engage me of course with my regulated cup of coffee :)

I recently have came across twoandsix and have been inspired by her recent posts of the last month, specifically this.

Small Hats For A Tiny Head

The best things come in small packages ~ English Proverbs

A friend is having a baby mid this year! So the natural thing for a knitter would be to knit acouple of small beanies and maybe a bootie or two … :) … right?!

The beanie above was adapted from Hineri Hat Pattern by Olga Buraya-Kefelian, Olga lists this pattern free on ravelry. I knit this with DK weight yarn, the pattern calls for 10ply yarn.

And it’s all very exciting!! Birth and new life is a sign of hope and an amazing miracle.

As a knitter I feel great joy when I can share my gifts of creating something out of mere string. For me it’s an act of caring. And I’m excited to knit for a little person that hasnt arrived yet!

Aside from the fact that small knits are instantly gratifying, small people are just so much fun to dress up :).

The remaining 3 pics from top are knits adapted from the following patterns; Flowered Miss, Alien Spaceship and Candy Beret are all adapted from Baby Beanies: Happy Hats to Knit for Little Heads by Amanda Keeys

We all (no matter who we are), have the potential to give and share ourselves with other people in any way we choice. Mine is to knit …

A Daily Activity:: Showers

February 6, 2011 § Leave a comment

Showers … where would we be without them. Probably stank, reeking of BO, and just feeling generally awful. So now that I’ve successfully grossed myself out, it has to be said that I just cant stand myself when I  havent had a decent shower :)

I know this may appear something so blatantly insignificant in the great scheme of things.

Daily activities can sometimes be so obviously taken for granted. Lets be happy at least that some of us get the very privilege (and it’s a privilege) of a shower a day (or acouple for some).

After a week of sweltering heat, ranging from 41-35 degree celsius heat!! The simple act of a shower is a God-sent to help cool oneself. I swear there were a couple of sleepless nights. Thankfully the rain has come and broken the heatwave *sigh* … what bliss!!

“Life is a long lesson in humility.”  ~ James M. Barrie

It’s times like this last week that reminds me of how meek we are in the grand scheme of things, and how much pleasure there can be in just the simple things.

Here’s to a cheerful week, lets learn to embrace all that is simple … and hopefully we’ve had the worst of the extreme temperature for Summer here in Sydney, Australia.

Gnome + Mania = Love?

February has just rolled around, so those still in a daze, it’s time to give yourself a good slap of motivation. So, February … is it really the month of “LOVE”, or am I daring to be romantic :)

I have been recently enamoured by Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Ganomey Hat, and as it turns out I’m not the only one :). The pattern can be found in her book Knitter’s Almanac. I dont know what it is, I have suddenly felt this incredible urge to knit it.

The Ganomey Hat is just another testiment to EZ’s genius and enginuity, it truly is an inventive piece of knitting. So far it’s an easy pattern and quite quick to pull together. This is my first attempt, although the pattern is quite easy to follow. Shall keep you posted on my WIP.

Still on this gnome theme, Gnomeo & Juliet in 3D is destined for a cinema near you on 17th Feb 2011!! Two garden gnomes, Gnomeo (voice of James McAvoy) and Juliet (voice of Emily Blunt), try to avoid tradegy and find happy ending to their star-crossed love affair when they are caught up in a feud between neighbours … heehee … Sounds like something I could bear :D
