Make me a Zigzag Scarf

April 19, 2011 § 2 Comments

I recently stopped by Tessuti Fabric for just a quick looksee, and I spotted fabric that reminded me of something I spotted on net-a-porter.

Below is what I found at Tessuti ….

I picked up 60cm X 121cm, I’ll be making a scarf outta this :)

Kayla’s Pasha …

Another one all done and dusted … another quick project made with Panda Magnum 8ply. Although I prefer to NOT to use acrylic, in the case of making things for other people … especially for people who consider handwashing knits an effort too much to bare, for these select few they get Acrylics or some blend of acrylic :)

I knit my step-daughter the Pasha by Jane Richmond,  this pattern is a simple, quick knit!

Here’s Kayla’s Pasha ….

With a Cast-On of 96 sts, it is abit slouchy with the Panda Magnum 8ply yarn … I thread thru some elastic thread into the brim for abit of elasticity and to pull the ribbing in slightly so it holds to her head.

Fun … Superfast knit! Love it! I might knit this hat again, but in pure wool … in a grey or rustic colourway for meeeeeeeeeee.

Until next time … be well …

My Holden

April 13, 2011 § 2 Comments

I just finished knitting my Holden Shawl!! Hazzaahh!

There was something about this pattern that compelled me to knit it … :) I generally stay away from triangle shawls, the increasing of stitches every couple of rounds is something that doesnt particularly excite my special interests. But no matter, I still persisted with the Holden by  Mindy Wilkes.

I been incredibly compelled to knit this shawl that I believe I might have a repetative stress injury!! :)

The pattern is easy to memorise once you get the hang of it ….

The only mods I have made to this pattern were made midway thru the stockinette part of the pattern. On the Right Side rows only:

Beginning of RS row: K3, YO, K2, M1 ….

Ending of RS row: Last 5 sts; M1, K2, YO, K3

I continued knitting the above mods on the RS only, until I reach 193sts … the rest of the lace pattern was knit as originally supplied, I also knit an extra lace pattern repeat. I was worried I wouldnt have enough yarn, but it seems I have 25gm of yarn left.

This is the first time I have bound off using the picot edge bind off, I have to say …. it’s worth the effort!

What a lovely pattern! Now I can rest my fingers and enjoy wearing this pretty shawl, my last 2 pics were taken in 6am light on a cool autumn morning …

The yarn used is my own handdyed yarn … I also have the same blend in the Russet-Red colourway in my etsy shop.

Happy Knitting yall! :)

Instant Gratification Meets Knitting

I needed something instant! I needed a project to magically workup in a matter of hours …

I have been staring at my handspun, and wondering what it wanted to become, I really enjoyed spinning this particular handspun, because I went all freeform on it :) … And so the conception of my Handspun Cowl came into being. So it consists of Merino/Alpaca & Angora scrap roving with a smattering of Angelina, I found a bunch in the fibre stash, so I carded all together and spun single ply DK to Aran Weight, as a thick-thin yarn …

The colours vary from Orange, Teal, Violet, Brown, Pink, Maize, Turquoise Blue, Ecru … Such a joy to spin, the Merino-Alpaca-Angora Blend was just fabulous!

And even better to knit!! :D – The picture doesnt illustrate the Angelina as it should, but I only used a small amount but it’s there. This quick knit was inspired by Parikha Mehta’s Free Pattern, Dolores Park Cowl.

Loved knitting this so much, ok so it’s nothing spectacular … it’s just a knitted tube :) BUT! with Handspun yarn!!! And it took less than 24 hrs whilst watching, the 2 latest episodes of The Good Wife.

It’s all washed and blocked, and is soft, warm and visual feast for the eyes! The Angora gives it a lovely halow and add that little extra softness … So delightful!

Anyway … onwards and upwards … Here’s to the weekend!
