Ahhhh Joy! I finished a pair of vanilla socks a day or so ago, and I’m really enjoying lounging in them at home. They are really a quirky colour I think it has to be said that I myself would probably the only one that loves … :)
Acouple of weeks ago in my “Koigu Inspired Sockyarn :: Take 1” post I experimented with dyeing some sockyarn. I wanted something like koigu dyed yarn, I think I might have to keep experimenting though, but I’m happy with the result for my first attempt … YAY!
I love random spots of colour in yarn, for me it makes the knitting journey with random spots of colour, worth the while!
Needles | 2 X 2.5mm 16″ circulars
Gauge | 9 sts per 1 inch
Yarn | Spunkyarn Serena Sock :: 4ply sock yarn (4/16.8 nM) :: Colourway | Mauve ‘N’ Multi
Fiber | Wool 75% / Nylon 25%
Weight | 100gm :: Yardage | 450mtrs (430yds)
My Mods | CO 64sts :: Cuff |1” 2X2 Ribbing only :: Heel Flap | RS: Sl1, K1 Rep til end; WS: Sl1, Purl all sts :: Heel |Used a Dutch Heel :: Toe | Used a Pointed Toe; from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. Next time for my sock toe, instead of decreasing using Sl1, K1 psso, I might use K2tog … :) … as I like the look of K2tog.
Personal Critisism | Possibly Cast On 2-4 sts too many, still fits fine, could be alittle more snug, altho no problems with the leg staying up.

Ok so … it’s Winter in Australia at the moment … :)
That doesnt mean I cant be inspired by the Fall 2011 Fashion Trends in New York!!
Fall in the US begins in late September, and apparently, the Palette is Sensible & Spirited … Inspiration for dyeing I say! :D

For the last 2 years I have been rather taken with Koigu yarn, whilst I’m inlove with this yarn, I’m also mindful of the cost!! Yikes! But I feel that at some stage I’m gonna have to splurge and get me some, so I can experience the joy of knitting with it … have I mentioned I’m a weak for colour :) … I’m particularly drawn to the yarn that has sprinkles of colour.
Just the other week I was perusing the WIKSTENmade blog, and came across a post on Hand Knit Socks and instantly fell inlove with the socks handknit with Koigu yarn. Personally I wouldnt knit my socks out of koigu, especially if it was 100% Merino, the sock would not go the distance … and I prefer my handknits to last alittle while ;). I would prefer nylon blend sockyarn; Merino 80%/Nylon 20% or Merino 75%/ Nylon 25% … cushy but is hardwearing.
Enter my only solution: Experimental Hand dyeing!!
The base colour is a semi solid mauve, with sprinkles of hot pink, turquoise blue & yellow … I’m curious to see how my sock knits up … I’m knitting a plan vanilla sock … I’m abit excited I had to post this :) …

I blocked the living daylights outta this one :) … and I LOVE IT! It’s been keeping the winter chills away!

Bottom-up, Lace Motif edging, Stripes, Stunning, well written pattern … what a joy it was to knit! :)
Yarn(s) | Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 4ply; Col: Ghost & Starry Starry Sockyarn; Col: Deep Olive
Needles | 3.5mm Knitpicks 80cm circulars
Size | Medium
Mods | None … Lovely as it is, I felt none was required.
Rated | 4 / 5
This worked lovely for me … I’m glad I knit the Medium, I think a small would’ve been too small for me. I am deriving alot of pleasure from knitting pieces for my neck at the moment. I figure if my neck is warm, I’m generally alright :)
This pattern really appeals to my stripey aesthetic, and the little bit of leaf lace motif at the border’s edge was fun too. I am almost contemplating knitting this again in a solid colour, and maybe slightly heavier yarn, DK or even worsted! :) … I have a tendency to want to only knit projects once only, so I make no promises.
