It’s a Cardi Queue Up!!!

April 30, 2012 § 5 Comments

So here goes … my instant gratification knitting, has armed me with enough inspiration and stamina to get my needles stuck into some cardigans! Yes, you heard cardigans!! I cant believe it myself … those things intimate me.

For the last year, I’ve been lurking around bespoke cardigan project pages, marvelling at other knitters interpretations and use of yarns. Often wondering if I myself would have the patience or stamina to knit a cardigan myself, for myself!

Well, the wait is over! I’m there!! I have finally drooled myself into irevicable cardigan knitting submission, and have queued up 11 cardigans for my knitting pleasure!!! (I’m so excited I cant stop “!”ing … hahahah)

In no particular order of importance of preference, I give you my list ….

1. Kara by Cecily Glowik MacDonald

2. Chalet by Cecily Glowik MacDonald

3. Leaflet by Cecily Glowik MacDonald

4. Girl Friday by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark

5. fall away cardigan by Heidi Kirrmaier

6. Acorns by Carol Sunday

7. Old Town by Carol Sunday … Interesting construction.

8. Nanook by Heidi Kirrmaier

9. Off-Rib Cardigan by Stefanie Japel

10. Rivel Cardigan by Miriam L. Felton

11. Dahlia Cardigan by Heather Zoppetti

Isn’t there something like a knitterly versions of nanowrimo?  Where you knit a shawl a month or a sweater a month for a year … OMG! I have 9 months left, can I really do this?! If I could queue and knit 5 of these cardigan, even I would be stoked.

Let me say this, if nothing else … I am abit ambitious!! :$ … hahahah … and it goes without saying abit excited too!

FO: 2nd Vanilla Sock

April 28, 2012 § 1 Comment

I’ve decided for the moment I need instant gratification knitting … So these socks are all done!

Loved the colour of this yarn, I hand dyed this myself … I find great pleasure watching the colours workup, each stitch is lovely surprise!! :D

These are my 2nd vanilla socks, my tootsies are singing my praises right now ...

If you are also prone to experimenting and dyeing up your own collection of yarns, you can find the undyed version of this yarn in my etsy shop. The sockyarn is a 85% Merino, 15% Nylon blend … has a lovely handle and will do very nicely for shawls, hats, cardigans and any project that requires fingering weight yarn.

Since I’ve been completely engrossed in knitting instant gratification projects, I’m now slightly obssessed with taking on a cardigan project! I’ve queued up (as I just realised, that 3 of the cardigans are designed by Cecily Glowik MacDonald) … but that’s story for another time ;)

Instantly Gratified, with a Simple Hat!

April 27, 2012 § 2 Comments

Rummaging through my queue I wanted something quick, simple and tasteful …

The answer was the Simple Pleasures Hat by Purl Soho, ofcourse!

Ok this hat is not all that complicated, it’s super quick to knit up … and it’s wonderfully cozy for cold blowy days, or take with you on a ski trip (or somewhere cold and has snow ;D).

I hand dyed the yarn into a dusky mauve colour … I wanted a muted pastel pink (closer to a grey tone).

Pattern | Simple Pleasures Hat by Purl Soho (FREE on purlbee website)

Needles | 4mm DPNs & 5mm DPNs

Gauge | 5sts per 1 inch

Yarn A:Yarn | 2 balls X Lincraft Angora PlusColourway | Grey-Mauve Fiber | 50% Bamboo, 35% Wool, 15% Angora

Weight | 50g per ball  ::  Yardage | 75m

Yarn B:Yarn | 1 ball X Moda Vera Mohair BlendColourway | GreyFiber | 50% Nylon, 50% Mohair

Weight | 25g  ::  Yardage | 250m

My Mods | My ribbing was measured at 2.75 inches and the body of the hat u to the crown is 7 inches. Only a small amount of slouch.

My View |  The yarn I used has a considerable Bamboo which gives it a lovely drape, and the Angora a lovely soft handle. I didn’t use all the 2 balls of yarn, more 1.75 balls. Definately a warmer hat than I initially expected!

Yes it’s another Shawl

I’ve finally finished my Springtime Bandit which has been languishing since August (2011) last year, and I have to say I love it!

I love everything about this yarn, the colour, the texture and the look … (earlier shots are taken in a different light, the shawl looks more like the colour below)

Pattern | Springtime Bandit by Kate Gagnon Osborn (FREE on Ravelry)

Needles | 4.5mm 29″ circulars

Gauge | 6 sts per 1 inch

Yarn | Kingcraig Merino Cashmere DK :: Colourway | Autumn Fleck

Fiber | Merino 95% / Cashmere 5%

Weight | 100gm  ::  Yardage | 300m

My Mods | The only change I made was in the edging; after the body of the shawl was complete, I began the edging chart at row 15 through to row 34 before binding off.

My View | The pattern was quite addictive … and the end result is one I’ll wear proudly. I am abit partial to leafy motifs myself ;), although I did find that edging was abit long for my personal taste (see my mods above)

Cold Feet = Vanilla Socks

April 14, 2012 § 3 Comments

So the last week has been ho-hum … and if the reports are to be believed, a fine temperature drop! Bbbbrrrr *cold*

Have we skipped Autumn and gone straight for Winter??

As a result (back to me now), it’s been a wee bit nippy, and my tootsies have been longing for afew more …. wait for it …. Handknit SOCKS ofcourse! :D.

Ok so, it’s nothing too exciting … it’s Vanilla Socks again, straight forward and quick. Details of where to find the  pattern are below or you could search ravelry for alternatives. :)

pattern | The Knitmore Girls Vanilla Socks

yarn | Spunkyarn Serena Sock yarn (100g|400m)

knitting needles | 2.75mm dpn’s

fiber blend | 85% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon

Since I’m encouraged by the weather I might knit a couple socks in heavier yarns, Sport, DK … maybe even worsted!

Pattern | Striped Up

April 11, 2012 § 4 Comments

The inspiration behind making this scarf was from a striped scarf I happened across the Trenery website.

It’s original scarf  is really just a basic scarf, that incorporates a simple 2 X 2 rib at the beginning, following on with stocking stitch that is striped, and ending again with a 2 X 2 rib.

This pattern really is a no brainer, but I thought I’d write it out for those newbies out there :) …

And this is my effort so far … Check my WIP  on Ravelry

My Work In progress (wip)- Striped Up Scarf

  • Colourmart Heavy DK yarn, Cashmerino Blend in Geranium (Coral Pink marl)
  • Colourmart Heavy DK yarn, Cashmerino Blend in Beige n1 (Natural Ecru Tweed)
  • Moda Vera Lace weight,  Mohair Blend in Beige (Tan) – held together with the other Beige yarn.
