The inspiration behind making this scarf was from a striped scarf I happened across the Trenery website.
It’s original scarf is really just a basic scarf, that incorporates a simple 2 X 2 rib at the beginning, following on with stocking stitch that is striped, and ending again with a 2 X 2 rib.
This pattern really is a no brainer, but I thought I’d write it out for those newbies out there :) …
And this is my effort so far … Check my WIP on Ravelry …
- Colourmart Heavy DK yarn, Cashmerino Blend in Geranium (Coral Pink marl)
- Colourmart Heavy DK yarn, Cashmerino Blend in Beige n1 (Natural Ecru Tweed)
- Moda Vera Lace weight, Mohair Blend in Beige (Tan) – held together with the other Beige yarn.
- Colourmart Heavy DK yarn, Merino-Silk Blend in Navy (Navy Blue)

Have a look for yourself … Cotton-Blend Cardigan by Clare Tough … I had a severe case of sticker shock, I shouldn’t really be surprised, but my mouth literally flung open when I saw this.
As you can see it’s cream coloured, that’s fine … the yarn blend being 60% cotton, 20% silk & 20% cashmere, appears to be a worsted weight yarn … ok … even down to the stitch pattern, which by my assessment is definitely Feather and Fan …
The model pictured is 177cm/5’10” and is wearing an Italian Size 40 (US6/AU 10), check conversation here
Total cost of said cardi = £562.50!! (ughhhh) …
I suppose maybe if you considered it has been claimed to have been hand knit, and the fibre content of the yarn would be considered mid-high end (leaning more towards high end)
Whilst it looks almost appealing, the price is somewhat off-putting, I’m not completely convinced this is the cardi I’d like to add to my project queue … And I state this only because I’ve knit that many items in Feather and Fan, I think I’ve exhausted my desire to use this stitch pattern for the minute.
… So with that proclamation :) … I don’t see myself reverse engin-knitting this cardigan anytime soon, and this is purey for my own reasons because I feel personally I’ve knit the Feather and Fan to death … :)
Having stated all this … I’d like to say if I did wasn’t to knit this or something similar my suggestions for alternative Yarns would be:
- Bella by Debbie Bliss, Fiber: 85% Cotton 10% Silk 5% Cashmere
- Mirasol Sawya, 60% Pima Cotton/25% Alpaca/15% Silk
- Louisa Harding Aimée, 90% Cotton/10% Cashmere
VERDICT (To Knit-engineer or NOT to Knit-Engineer): No go for me, although I am tempted … just slightly … :)

I find myself hanging out for the next episode of The Good Wife!
I love the characters of the show and the writers(Robert King and Michelle King) do such a marvelous job on the script, but above all … *grin* … I look forward to the incidental rare glimses of Alicia Florrick knitwear. Her Aran knits are pure eye candy for any avid knitter.
I can’t seem to narrow my search to finding the cardigan pattern, but I believe the cable stitches used are:
– Double Knot Cable Pattern Stitch (as used to make the scarf in the link)
– Yarn Over Cable Pattern ( Maybe?)
In anycase … I vow to either hunt this pattern down or try darn hard to rip-it off … I dont know how yet, but fingers crossed.
